update: Ubercart added – thanks to Simon (commenter) below.
No “Ubercart” ?
OS Commerce is very difficult to install and use – and it’s very limiting. There’s not enough features to run an entire professional business. The same goes with ZenCart. Magento almost has it right, but it’s also very difficult to install and it’s slow.
You should look into a total online business platform such as http://www.haikuob.com which handles shopping cart, website, customer database and marketing features. It’s a hosted solution so you don’t have to worry about the technical stuff either. All the other bases are also integrated, such as the payment gateways, shipping modules etc., and you can even give your customers coupons and vouchers. It’s an all in one solution so you don’t need to juggle multiple systems.
Zeuscart is also the php based open source shopping cart software. It is a free GPL Open source shopping cart software.

Oh wow, who would have thought that theming magento would be as simple as 3 steps (and the 3rd step doesn't count because it's a recap)… So make that 2 steps! Holy cow how easy is that, NOT! Anyone who's thinking about using magento should have their head examined; magento is bloated, confusing and bullocks. I'd only suggest using it if you've got a penchant for punishment, or 6 months to learn all their "simple" coding conventions … But don't expect to do this by reading their documentation, or searching for help on their forums; the information you'll find that way is lacking to say the least. You'll only learn it by wading through the 5,000 files it installs on your server; you read that write, the standard install contains nearly 5,000 files. I stamp magento with an AVOID AT ALL COSTS label. Future users beware!
We will be glad to see http://www.axiscommerce.com/ in this list!
Great list – thanks a lot !
osCmax has just released their new version as a Release Candidate – v2.5.
An amazing new set of functionality, User interface improvements and upgrades to existing modules.
Check it out now … knocks the socks of most of the competition.
Very impressive list but some of the very popular CMSs are missing like VirtueMart for Joomla, WP e-Commerce for WordPress. thanks for the list though…
What about VirtueMart, Cube Cart, DashCommerce? They are getting popular by their own rights. They should be included in this list.
What do you think?
