Hi Sigurd,

The problem is that before a package can get to judging it has to have a large community, so it doesn't matter how fair and thorough the judges are. If over the years only a small set ever reach the judges, that is the only data the judges can refine for the people using it for their decisions.

While I agree there is a degree to which the awards can favour CMS packages with large communities, this article would be more balanced if it mentioned PacktPub's efforts to balance the awards. This year they produced a Hall of Fame award, which takes two very popular platforms and their large communities out of the other parts of the competition and puts them head to head: http://www.packtpub.com/hall-fame-finalists

My understanding is that the judges provide a means to review the usability and featuresets of the packages, and I would expect that as years go by, their analysis becomes more fine grained: by listing various strengths and weaknesses of each finalist, potential users and developers can match their requirements with a relevant platform rather than hastily picking a touted "winner".

In my view, giving judges the tools and resources to more deeply evaluate each finalist and publishing an accurate comparison and assessment of each is a better candidate for strengthening the credibility and usefulness of the awards.

I have to admit that I agree with you Allen, I would like to see some changes made to the way the systems are selected and like the fact that you took the time to step up with some suggestions.

Thank you for sharing.
