After three years of development and over €1 million R&D investment, Web Content Management (WCM) provider pTools today launched a new cloud-based version of its software, pTools System6, for the global market.

Developed to take advantage of cloud computing scalability at lower costs, it offers customers an enterprise level website environment that is ready for development, meaning they can cost-effectively deploy and maintain their web presences in a matter of hours.

Keith Wood, the new CEO of pTools who took over from Tom Skinner, pTools founder, last year and has driven the new development says:

“pTools System6 is the most powerful software we have delivered to date and comes at a time when IT managers in Ireland and internationally are looking to reduce overheads dramatically. It provides extensive functionality on-cloud or on-premise that’s easy to use and easy to scale.”

“When setting up a CMS online you typically buy the software, spec the servers, install, configure, and put the servers in a data centre. You then add firewall boxes and routers, sign a hosting and bandwidth agreement, put it all online and pay annual support and maintenance for hardware, software and so on. With a cloud solution, you just turn it on and start straight away – no upfront hardware or IT support costs, and no hassle.”

Speaking of the customisation features Woods adds: “Customers can log in to the pTools WCM Designer to choose what components they want to use. This means they get exactly what they want from the software exactly the way they want it.”

pTools System6 uses the latest cloud computing infrastructure from Irish company, Fort Technologies, ensuring stability and optimum performance. Key benefits of the solution include:

Lower costs of ownership of enterprise WCM software and hardware.

Faster implementation and better delivery of new web content.

Easy-to-use interface that makes complex tasks simple.

More applications including ‘Digital Asset Management’.

Increased marketing effectiveness of targeted content.

Mobile web and social media content sharing.

Reduced overheads for IT managers and better use of IT resources.

Scalability to handle the busiest and best sites online.

Commenting further on the initiative, Dee Allott, pTools General Manager for Canada where the company recently expanded said:

“pTools position in Canada and within the international marketplace for content management is significantly strengthened with this new solution. Cloud computing is still formative in terms of customer expectations but it is without doubt the future of almost all applications to be delivered and all the major firms are going in this direction.”

Dee Allott is former President at Lexmark Canada and General Manager of Lexmark Europe. He brings a wealth of experience to the pTools team and company plans for growth and development.

Commenting on the initiative, Gerry Murray, CEO of Fort Technologies, said:

“Partners like pTools are core to Fort’s strategy of providing a single interface that addresses the hybrid cloud model of SaaS, IaaS and on premise through a single intuitive console. It’s a true partnership where the pTools offering enriches Fort’s offering while our platform and management software provides another channel to market through our cloud marketplace for independent software vendors such as pTools.”

pTools focus is on Finance, Health, Government, Security, and Energy sectors. pTools includes functionality for Web Content Management, Multi-Language Content, Accessibility Compliant Content, Digital Asset Content, and Learning Content Management. pTools System6 is available on the Fort Technologies Cloud as well as Microsoft Azure and Amazon Oracle Cloud platforms.

From within the pTools CMS, social media content can be easily re-distributed to any site anytime in any format on any social network.

A key feature, pTools ‘TwitterDocs’, allows users to post to Twitter as they publish content through the CMS. There is no need to separately login to Twitter, and the content-related Tweet is controlled and managed within the CMS and its workflows.

In addition to Twitter, customer content is presented on Facebook, LinkedIn, and indexed in live search engine results such as Google & Bing with no pre- or post-publishing tweaking required.

The new features, which will be launched at the Digital Media Conference in Dublin at the end of the month, mean that businesses can now manage multiple online campaigns for different demographics through one content management engine.

Commenting on the development, Lee Annett, customer relationship and business development manager at pTools says: “Content is at the heart of the social networking experience and pTools Content Management Software (CMS) is helping customers get the most from their online content without the need to manually republish content to every ‘current’ social media site. From within the CMS, content can be pushed out to potentially thousands of online locations and draws visitors back in to the central website.

pTools is a leading enterprise web content management software vendor providing high level feature functionality that delivers powerful content management for critical enterprise initiatives.

As information transparency, compliance and accessibility needs are further heightened by the recent banking and economic turmoil, pTools today announced that it has developed an automated document migration and transformation solution with partner company Riverdocs. The solution solves the problem of document accessibility and transparency and is aimed at financial services and government agencies.

By making documents more searchable and readily available, the solution guarantees compliance with accessibility and transparency legislation. Organizations can now seamlessly transform PDF, Microsoft Word, and all Microsoft Office documents into compliant html web pages in pTools without the need for manual migration. Documents of 100 pages or more that can take three to five days to manually convert, let alone publish, can be tackled in a matter of hours and made available to online systems.

pTools was involved in development of the document Transparency Initiative at the Irish Stock Exchange earlier this year and Managing Director Tom Skinner commented: “We continue to build our Enterprise Content Management suite of applications and solutions and, together with Riverdocs, we can now provide an instant solution to exchanging document information online in a manner that traditionally required dedicated investment in technical skills and resources. This makes large scale document conversion and publishing easy.”

The solution solves the long standing problem of easily representing documents online as searchable, useable and accessible web pages. Issues of document retrieval, lost attachments, and inability to search are all handled by transformation to HTML and automated publishing to browser.

An immediate benefit of this approach is that it eliminates the need for manual migration. While other services offer conversion, this solution differs in that documents are also automatically publishable for web. By simply dropping a PDF or document into a folder in pTools content management software, the document is transformed into web pages in the pTools application using the Riverdocs service.

Commenting on the development Peter Acton, Managing Director of Riverdocs says: “Riverdocs and pTools have a natural technology fit that results in a single solution for customers. For CMS users it’s a trouble free solution to an age-old problem and it really solves all the issues for people trying to easily access information that’s embedded in Office documents and PDFs. The savings in time and effort are significant and the results in controlling and sharing information accurately can’t be underestimated for financial services and government.”

The development is part of the ongoing extension of pTools suite of applications and is already in deployment with customers in Ireland and the UK. Key benefits delivered by pTools Riverdocs document transformation solution include:

Rapid conversion of Pdf and Microsoft Office Documents to managed web pages

Managed, controlled and auditable access to documents and web pages

Managed approval and sign-off of documents and web pages

Fulfilled governance and compliance document transparency guidelines

Guaranteed accessibility web content compliance and fully text searchable

Reduced document and policy circulation costs and risks

Increased document and policy efficiencies

Guaranteed synchronisation of circulated information

Improved information search and retrieval

The solution helps Financial Services and Government Organisations synchronise and share information in manner that is fully controlled, traceable and secure. Most of all it’s easy to adopt and deploy and results are immediately quantifiable and measurable for all.

pTools today announced that it has further developed its content management software (CMS) as an embedded application for Microsoft SharePoint.

Organizations can now use the enhanced web content management (WCM) capability of pTools directly within the SharePoint interface and framework.

The latest release will be launched at Microsoft’s worldwide SharePoint conference in Las Vegas this October 19th to 22nd, where pTools will also link up with partners and customers from the North American market.

Paul Rellis, Managing Director of Microsoft Ireland, commenting on pTools participation at the conference, says: “pTools has very successfully developed their web content management software on the SharePoint platform. Through participating in the SharePoint event the company will gain access and exposure to a vast number of customers and partners interested in connecting, sharing and collaborating on some of Microsoft’s fastest growing product lines – including SharePoint Server, SQL Server and Office 2007.”

The development is part of the ongoing extension of pTools suite of CMS products and alignment to Microsoft’s .NET applications framework.

Key enhancements delivered by pTools embedded WCM for SharePoint include:

Enterprise level out-of-the box WCM functionality

Seamless SharePoint-to-web replication and publishing

Guaranteed accessibility web content compliance

Multi-language web content management

Multi-channel web content personalisation

Rich media web content applications

Improved SEO web optimisation

Linked-up social networking and web content syndication.

Commenting on the development Tom Skinner, Managing Director of pTools says: “Continual product development based on customer and partner expectations is a key strategy for pTools and this extension puts our software at the leading edge with Microsoft SharePoint and web content management. Not only is our software now better integrated with
SharePoint, but the out-of-the-box capabilities of pTools web content management are now greatly improved. This development of an embedded application gives an over-the-horizon view of what’s coming in web and enterprise content management for pTools and pTools customers on the SharePoint platform.”
